SGT Puzzles Collection – Introduction

New features are a bit of a rarity in Xubuntu, but we’ve wanted to expand our selection of games for a while. This is where the SGT Puzzles Collection comes in.

What is it?

SGT Puzzles Collection (sgt-launcher) is a game launcher and wrapper for Simon Tatham’s Portable Puzzle Collection, a popular collection of logic games by the developer of PuTTY.

By embedding the games into the launcher window, additional functionality and usability can be added to them. Initially, this is limited to the New Game, Undo, and Redo buttons. I hope to expand the integration in the future.

It becomes possible to hide the huge bundle of launchers for the individual games by acting as a launcher for the collection.  This tidies up the applications menu in case you play other games outside of this collection.

Downloads

I published the first release of the SGT Puzzles Collection last week.  The source can be downloaded from Launchpad.  I’ve also created a daily PPA where new fixes will be published daily.  Ubuntu 16.10 and 17.04 users can install sgt-launcher from this PPA.  Should everything go as planned, we’ll likely see this in the Ubuntu repositories in time for Ubuntu 17.04.
